Montreal has the pleasure of being home to one of my favorite museums, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. With an amazingly diverse and intricate permanent collection, it’s no surprise that their temporary exhibits are stunning as well. One of their latest exhibits is a display of works by pop art legend Andy Warhol.
The exhibit is fascinating for me for multiple reasons, including the fact that it has inspired and influenced my style quite a bit since I saw it. No, it hasn’t made my style more colorful – I continue to wear neutrals and different shades of black – but it has made my style a little more daring and stark. Pop art has (quite fittingly) made my style “pop.”
I’m beginning to fully grasp the idea that any form of culture – whether it be paintings, music, or literature – can influence my style greatly. This is because, quite simply, fashion is art, art is fashion, and so on. It’s all culture, and all aspects of it interconnect to create a vast web of inspirations of which we as individuals can take what we will.
So thanks, Andy Warhol.
