A Case for Canadians

These shoes simply didn’t get enough love on the blog when it was warm enough to wear flats. So I’m going to wear them in the fall at the cost of warm feet. With that said, it wasn’t really very cold when we shot these pictures.

Now that you’ve seen a close up of my babies, I can now tell you that this post is not about these shoes. It’s about Canadian Tuxedos, and how I’m making a case for them.

I’ll wear a denim jacket over jeans and I’ll consistently get snide remarks and judgmental looks from “fashionable” girls on campus. Have some creativity, yeh? Personally, I don’t see the harm in wearing man’s greatest invention on the top and the bottom. I mean, sets are in, right? Why aren’t those people getting flack?!

To me, there’s just something so ~cool, americana, effortless, laid-back, name your adjective~ about an all denim look.

Of course, if you’re an entry level Canadian Tuxedo-wearer unlike myself, take some tips from this outfit to ease into the look:

(1) Different colored denim – you’ve heard it before, and I’ll say it again. *Warning* black denim with blue denim does not count as a Canadian tux in my books, but it does still look amazing, so you do you.

(2) Majorly accessorize. Whether it be a scarf, fussy bag, or statement shoes (I’ve got all 3 on here), it will definitely present the denim-on-denim look as a canvas on which you’ve created a piece of accessory art, taking away from the denim-on-denim-ness.

(3) If you’re not up for the denim jacket yet, try a denim shirt with a leather jacket on top! I definitely believe that a denim shirt counts towards this trend, and a leather jacket is a great way to make this statement look a little more subdued. But you’re wearing a leather jacket, so you’ll definitely still look ace.

An outfit for those days when you’re not sure if it’s summer or fall (but you’re kind of hoping it’s on the fall side). It’s an incredibly basic thing to recommend that you “throw a leather jacket over a light dress” to achieve that perfect balance, and that’s exactly what I’m telling you to do. Because who ever looked bad in a leather jacket? Here, because I just can’t wait for fall, I styled a more summery, 70’s style dress with warm fall colors and textures.

Also – I can’t not acknowledge the fact that fashion week is coming up – keep an eye out for some commentary by me!

Unsensible and Ridiculous

As unsensible as leather on leather in the middle of June sounds, it’s actually something I’ve been considering a lot lately. There’s something about leather that makes everybody feel cool, or free, and I can only help but feel that summer also makes us feel this way. If we overlap the two, who knows how many people would be confidently **swaggering** around right now. In addition to these thoughts, consider the massive upswing of suede styles currently in stores. People are willing to put themselves into trendy(ish) suede to summer fashion – why not our ever-in-style leather?

Again, I must emphasize my complete insanity for even suggesting leather in this season, but these are just some thoughts I’ve been exploring. When the weather is even somewhat forgiving this summer, you can rest assured that I’ll probably be melting somewhere dressed head to toe in leather.

With Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day, however you’ll be celebrating it) around the corner, I thought it would be fun to present you guys with different outfits inspired by different dates you guys might be going on this Saturday! This first look is for a casual movie date. I kept it comfortable with jeans and a scarf, while adding some edge and personality with the leather jacket and studded boots. See you back here tomorrow with Valentine’s Week’s second look!
