the blonded.

Blonded.

In September of 2013, I started a blog. Looking for a creative outlet for my innate earnestness to enter the fashion world, TheClosetCraze served as the perfect platform. And for over 3 years (can you believe it?) it has fulfilled its duties and been what I needed it to be, when I needed it. I’ve experienced times of intense motivation to create content, and just as much I’ve left it alone to focus on other life experiences.

TheClosetCraze was an idea birthed from my 16-turned-17-year-old mind. Wrapped up in a world flooded with like-minded teenage girls just trying to “make their mark” on the fashion world and worshipping Danielle Bernstein, I naturally fell into step with the rest. As any unseasoned young girl, a little too scared to wear what she really wanted to wear and act how she really wanted to act, it was easy to think what I was doing was right when everybody else was doing it too.

By no means am I discrediting what TheClosetCraze has done for me – it has helped me to blossom and flourish in so many ways. On my journey since its inception, it has not only enabled me to trace where my style has gone as its surface purpose prescribes, but it has provided the much needed encouragement to ride the wave of my imagination rather than chase it.

But it’s clear to me, and hopefully to you as well, that I am not the same self that I was when I was 16. And it seems to me that running a blog that no longer reflects where I am in life – creatively, intellectually, and otherwise – doesn’t make much sense.

So I present to you, the blonded.

the blonded is just a blog. No more, no less. It’s the portal through which I will toss my thoughts and feelings into the black hole of the internet. Fashion still plays the primary inspiration in the blonded universe, but by removing the confines of definition, I feel that whatever my content will be, will be unreservedly me.

Welcome to the blonded.

How to Get Inspired When You Just Want to Do Nothing

IMG_4222

A couple of weeks ago, I found myself in a seriously daunting creative rut. With working full time and preparing for the school year, I just couldn’t seem to find the time to create content that I was satisfied with. I didn’t know how to claw myself out of the hole I found myself in, and nothing was changing. So, I decided that when I did finally see the light (even for a second) I would write down what got me there to see if I could conjure up some tricks to get inspired.

So here they are, tried and true – my tips to get yourself inspired again when you just can’t fathom creating anything:

IMG_4268

Leave the house. I don’t care if you have nothing to do out there, just get out and walk around. Just catching onto the energy of the environment outside your home can be enough to light a spark.

IMG_4271

Go somewhere where there are either lots of people, or nobody at all. Surrounding yourself with people surrounds you with tons of different energies – feed off of the vibes of others, and translate them into creativity. Having nobody around you, on the other hand, envelopes you in calm. Reflect on yourself or your environment, bring together those thoughts, and center yourself.

IMG_4272

Buy yourself some good-looking and good-tasting food, and accompany that food with some coffee. (Honestly, the crappier the coffee, the better. I can’t come up with a real explanation for this trend, but there’s definitely an observed correlation).

IMG_4270

Bring a camera with you – any camera. This can be anything from the camera on your phone to a fancy SLR. Then, take at least 20 pictures. These pictures could be of anything – they don’t even have to be pretty! But I find taking pictures can shift me into a creative mindset after only a couple of shots.

IMG_4273

Wear your oldest, dirtiest, sneakers. They’ll make you feel real again and bring you back down to earth.

IMG_4274

Play music. I find that it helps to have a pre-prepared playlist of music that inspires you – sometimes when you’re in a rut, you can’t decide what to listen to and this trick ends up contributing to the problem.

These steps (any or all) have definitely helped me recently, and combining them with the changing season has me finally feeling like I’m going somewhere again.

Sheyanne’s Questions!

1. What is your signature look?
Probably high waisted jeans, a tee-shirt, some cool booties and a leather jacket!
2. Who is your fashion icon?
This one’s really a hard question for me! I have different icons for different occasions. But if I had to narrow it down, it’d most likely be Danielle Bernstein from WeWoreWhat!
3. If you could live in any fashion capital, which city would it be?
London!
4. What is the quote you live by?
“If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.” (The source of this quote is highly debated).
5. Why are you interested in fashion?
I love that fashion is a way to express yourself without actually talking. And you’re handed the ability to change your look every day when you get dressed in the morning!
6. What is your biggest fear?
I have more than one, of which I will not bore you guys with.
7. What is the make up product you SWEAR by?
Liquid eye liner! It changed my life.
8. What is your favorite trend?
I’m not even sure if you could call a leather jacket a trend, because they’ve always been around, but it’s the one thing I could never live without!
9. Why did you start blogging?
I wanted to showcase my passion for style, and it seemed like the perfect outlet to achieve that!
10. If you could become a member of any television series, which one would you pick and why?
Ah this is a toughy! Maybe the Carrie Diaries, because it’s just so fabulous?
