Skirt, Lime & Vine / Coat, Zara

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be contacted by a new company called Lime & Vine. Upon perusing their site I was instantly intrigued – their products are truly chic comfort at its finest. This skirt was the perfect way to introduce me to the brand. I’ve been looking for the perfect bodycon midi and this totally fit the bill! Though I don’t normally lunge at an opportunity to dress like Kim Kardashian, the layered and raw edges of the skirt keep it casual enough to wear with some favored sneakers rather than Louboutins.

I’m so excited to be experimenting more with skirts this season – I’ve faced the harsh winter of Montreal once and this year I’m ready to take it on head-to-head; I refuse to compromise my style to stay warm, and absolutely insist on wearing more skirts this Winter!! An additional note: if you follow me on Instagram you already know, but I did go blonder! I needed something to remind me of sunny California days as I head into the dark of winter, and this seemed to do the trick.

Nothing Better Than Home

I was so very fortunate enough to be able to go home for the weekend. Think of it as an early-because-we-got-a-great-deal-on-the-flight Thanksgiving break. It was such a nice breath of fresh in the middle of a relatively hectic couple of months for me.

To be honest this post isn’t so much about the outfit – I’m sure I’ve worn something just like this before here on theClosetCraze. To keep it plain and simple, this is a home appreciation post. I mean look at these pictures! Nothing is more breathtaking than this year’s fall in the Napa Valley.

Some more home appreciation: The Fremont Diner: the only place I will allow myself to eat chicken and waffles. All Hail the Fremont Diner.

Now it’s back to the dusty library I have the burden of calling my second home. (Don’t worry, I’ll keep posting though.)

A Case for Canadians

These shoes simply didn’t get enough love on the blog when it was warm enough to wear flats. So I’m going to wear them in the fall at the cost of warm feet. With that said, it wasn’t really very cold when we shot these pictures.

Now that you’ve seen a close up of my babies, I can now tell you that this post is not about these shoes. It’s about Canadian Tuxedos, and how I’m making a case for them.

I’ll wear a denim jacket over jeans and I’ll consistently get snide remarks and judgmental looks from “fashionable” girls on campus. Have some creativity, yeh? Personally, I don’t see the harm in wearing man’s greatest invention on the top and the bottom. I mean, sets are in, right? Why aren’t those people getting flack?!

To me, there’s just something so ~cool, americana, effortless, laid-back, name your adjective~ about an all denim look.

Of course, if you’re an entry level Canadian Tuxedo-wearer unlike myself, take some tips from this outfit to ease into the look:

(1) Different colored denim – you’ve heard it before, and I’ll say it again. *Warning* black denim with blue denim does not count as a Canadian tux in my books, but it does still look amazing, so you do you.

(2) Majorly accessorize. Whether it be a scarf, fussy bag, or statement shoes (I’ve got all 3 on here), it will definitely present the denim-on-denim look as a canvas on which you’ve created a piece of accessory art, taking away from the denim-on-denim-ness.

(3) If you’re not up for the denim jacket yet, try a denim shirt with a leather jacket on top! I definitely believe that a denim shirt counts towards this trend, and a leather jacket is a great way to make this statement look a little more subdued. But you’re wearing a leather jacket, so you’ll definitely still look ace.

One Coat, Two Ways: Part II

IMG_6223

Finally – the second part to my favorite two-part post ever.

The more I wear this coat, the more it becomes a part of my identity. I wish I was kidding, but it’s true. This coat has pretty much defined my A/W ’15 look – I literally throw it over whatever I’m wearing to go anywhere, whether it’s class, out to dinner, or anything in between.

Here I’ve clearly tried to dress it up a little, while also adhering to that super-cool grey on grey action that’s been coming up as inspiration a lot lately.

This look is perfect for those fall days where it’s a ~tiny~ bit warmer than usual and suddenly you feel like dressing up just that little bit more for your day. If you feel like it could be too dressy for class (honestly this would not be too dressy for class at McGill – people go crazy up here and I might attempt this as a school look tomorrow in fact), you could easily bring it down a notch by swapping the heeled booties for flat ones, or even converse and warm socks!
