A lot of change has occurred this summer. I’ve been in Vancouver, I started a new job at Anthropologie, and my style has really developed (as it usually does when you start a new retail job right before back-to-school shopping). With change, usually comes new favorite things! I’ve been experimenting with lots of different products, styles, and inspirations – here are a couple of things I’ve been loving in particular:

  1. Aritzia Bertillon Blouse – I even surprised myself when I picked up a purple top off the rack, but I’ve been getting a ton of wear out of this incredible transitional piece! The dusty purple color can bring a bit of depth to a look while its unexpected neutrality allows it to be worn with almost any other color.
  2. Free People August Catalog – You have to check out the video that accompanies this month’s catalog – it screams autumn and makes me so incredibly excited to begin preparing for those crisper days.
  3. Anthropologie Catalog – With my new job, I’ve come to appreciate Anthropologie in a totally new way, and this catalog only strengthens that admiration. Beautifully shot and styled, it’s definitely worth checking out for some prime fall inspiration.
  4. Rifle Paper Co. Notebook – I love collecting notebooks so much that I simply can’t write fast enough to fill all the ones I have. I’ve been digging this blue one in particular as my love for wearing color only grows stronger.
  5. Tocca Liliana Perfume – I’m currently loving this fragrance as the perfect scent for this summer-to-fall transition phase that we’re about to go through.
  6. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in “Hollywood” – I’ve found the perfect glam daytime color! Nude with a gold sheen across the top, this liquid lipstick has been worn many times since I got it just last week.
  7. Free People Skinny Scarf – I’ve had this for a while, I know. But I feel as if I’m always finding new ways to wear it and new looks to pair it with.

Outside Lands 2016: The Complete Planning Guide

output_6gLoau

This week I’ve been busy getting excited for my weekend at the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco! I just landed this morning and I am already loving the sunshine and prepping for this weekend with friends. (I’m currently sitting next to my hostess as she plans her outfits). We’re getting hyped for the weekend with this playlist, featuring artists from the lineup:

Since I had to pack to get here, I had to plan my festival vibes a little while back. I put together a couple of potential looks using some of my favorite new pieces! My inspiration was definitely more colorful and vibrant than usual – I’m mixing patterns, textures, and colors like there’s no tomorrow. I brought all these pieces because I feel like I can combine them however I want. The following are only 3 of the infinite possibilities:

Zara Jacket, Citizens of Humanity Jeans, BP Scarf, Free People Boots and Brami

Fjallraven Kanken Backpack, BP Hat, Free People Coat, Bodysuit and Skirt

Madewell Skirt, Urban Outfitters Swimsuit, Forever 21 Backpack, Steve Madden Sandals

Mario Badescu Facial Spray, Free People Earring Set

As for what I’m bringing to the festival, I’m keeping it as light and streamlined as possible. Keeping it minimal keeps it simple and light – no need for back pain to ruin the day! My belongings for the weekend will be as follows:

  1. Fjallraven Kanken Backpack (Mini!)
  2. Coach wallet
  3. Portable phone charger
  4. Rosebud lip balm
  5. Kylie Cosmetics Lipkit (Posie K)
  6. Rayban Aviators
  7. Film Camera + spare rolls (35 mm)

*Phone and water bottles go without saying.

Are you guys going to outside lands?! Tell me in the comments! (Can’t wait to see you there!)

Expect follow up posts soon!

Grandma’s House

There’s something about going to my Grandma’s house – drinking tea and admiring her garden – that make me feel a little more girly and a little more dainty than usual. So when I finally gave in to the uncontrollable urge to buy this dress, I knew there was only one place I wanted to shoot it.

Of course, girly-ness reaches a point of discomfort with me. So I had to rough up the look with touches of black, the beat up sneakers, and the velvet choker. Usually, I’m hesitant to toss around black accents with a summery outfit – they can come across as harsh and can ruin an outfit in a second.

But I tried adding the accents to the top and bottom while avoiding the creation of a stark divide across the dress (ie: a big black belt) and I think it worked! The black draws the eyes around the look without overpowering it.

The other accents were natural. The braid prevents overpowering the neck area (imagine my hair, the straps, and the choker – a disaster in the making) in what’s supposed to be a light look. Meanwhile, the rose-gold sunglasses are a subtle way to bring in some color and shine.

The teacup is half for fun and half for my caffeine fix.

Summer Makeup Routine

IMG_8137IMG_8146I’ve never been particularly obsessed with makeup. Winged liner, deep lips, and defined brows have always had a tendency to make me feel out of place in my own skin, and a former, foolish me used to think that engaging with beauty products automatically implied intensity.

But this summer I’ve discovered a couple of beauty gurus on Youtube, and together they have helped me develop my own beauty look that keeps it natural and fun at the same time.

So, without further ado, my makeup routine!

Glossier Priming Moisturizer, Perfecting Skin Tint, and Stretch Concealer

IMG_8036

1: Face Base

I start light on the face. This is not only a result of my adversity to the discomfort I feel under a full face of makeup, but also my skin’s horrible tendency to breakout as soon as something heavier than air touches it. I use Glossier’s products because I love the lightness and wearability of them – they’re the least makeup-y makeup I know of!

The moisturizer is self-explanatory – but the priming quality of it is a huge help to keeping my look on all day! (At this point in time I also use lip balm on my lips, and usually that’s all I’ll do to them!)

The skin tint is like the anti-foundation. I would say there’s little to no coverage, but it adds an evenness and glow to my skin that enhances any natural look.

And the concealer is again, obvious. Gotta conceal those undereyes!

2: Go Glow

Bronzing has proven essential to a glowy complexion. I like to start with The Multiple stick by Nars in “South Beach” on the cheekbones and corners of the forehead. I like to compare it to liquid copper in terms of pigment, which makes it awesome for a touch of contouring and a lot of shimmer! I then round it out with some relatively matte bronzer. After that I set my whole face lightly with some loose powder.

Urban Decay Naked Palette

3. Bright Eyes

For eyes, I keep it pretty basic with just a touch of all your basic eye makeup products. I first prime on the lid and inner corner. Then I ~usually~ pick two colors from my Naked Palette – darker for the outer lid, shimmery for the inner. I always use a super light fluffy brush for this to achieve a nicely light and blended look. Then I define with a touch of grey eyeliner and mascara!

Mario Badescu Facial Spray, Tocca Liliana Perfume, Jo Malone Red Roses Perfume

To finish off the look, I use this Mario Badescu facial spray (one of it’s purposes is to set) and add some scent with whatever perfume I’m feeling that day! (Right now it’s either Tocca’s Liliana or Jo Malone’s Red Roses).

Hope this gave you some sense of inspiration for a natural makeup look – I trust all these products with my life and I think you will too!
