Feminize

In light of all the leopard we saw this past fashion week and an attempt to ~feminize~ my fall look…

Finding this dress was a blessing sent from another realm. In this weird transitional time I keep finding myself gravitating towards my baggy jeans, vans, and simple tees, and leaving my look at that. While I’m all for simplicity, the effortless cool one feels whilst wearing blue jeans and a white tank has gradually slipped into a mundane dressing routine, and I’m beginning to hate it.

The result of this pendulum swing is a newfound attraction to more feminine dressing that I haven’t felt in a long time. Just in time for fall, too, when life is becoming routine again and I need something refreshing. Wearing a skirt or a dress can put a spring in my step that nothing else can, and you don’t need baggy jeans to bring you down when school is already doing so.

Here’s to another 2 (maybe 3) weeks of being able to wear this dress! Then I’ll have to start engaging my brain while getting dressed again.

September

img_4488

In an unexpected turn of events, I’ve chosen an outfit filled with cool tones just as we head into fall. I suspect that a hint of nostalgia for the summer months had something to do with the choice of ensemble, but who’s to say.

Nostalgic as I am, however, I am beyond ready for fall. I’m slightly tired of having my makeup melt off in the humidity of Montreal and I’m more than a little excited to be wearing 4 layers again. (With boots, such as these incredible snakeskin beauties that I snagged this summer at a killer price)

I guess this look is the middle ground between these two, very conflicting, tendencies.

Style Session: Heeled Daytime Sandals

Steve Madden Sandals

I thought it was finally time to show you guys what these sandals were all about. I’ve been wearing them all summer to work, and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on how I use them to complete a look – and how I can wear them for a 9 hour shift without complaining!

I do realize we’re reaching the end of the summer and it’s a little late for styling advice on sandals, but if you guys live anywhere like the Bay Area or Montreal, you know that we have a little more time before it really starts to chill down. So I thought I’d show you guys some ways to make sandals like these work for this transitional time, while also accommodating that lingering heat.

Look 1: Madewell Jeans, Aritzia Shirt, UO Necktie

For look 1 I went with a couple of western-inspired instincts – the necktie, the tied shirt, the denim.. and then I brought it back to reality with the sandals, and I brought it into fall with the dusty color scheme.

Look 2: Zara Shirt, Free People Skirt, Brandy Melville Choker, LF Bag

Look 2 is a girly look at its core, with the skirt and off-the-shoulder shirt combo. I then masculinized it with the pinstriped fabric and structured bag, and gave it a touch of edge with the unconventional skirt and choker. The denim and brown leather in the shoes make this a nice September look – an older version of the classic first day of school outfit.

Look 3: Zara Romper, BP Scarf

I’m not really sure what the inspiration behind Look 3 was. I think you can’t have a style session with heeled sandals without including some sort of dress (this is actually a cleverly disguised romper), and the scarf just seemed to lend itself to the look. What I ended up with is something you would probably see on a nicely dressed lady at a Mexican resort – but I would easily wear this out to a nice dinner.

Look 4: Levis Shorts, Zara Shirt, Free People Belt

Look 4 is a personal favorite. This new belt is the love of my life. I softened up a rugged bottom half with this light 70’s inspired blouse for a look that feels effortless. Throw on some sunglasses and a crossbody bag and I could easily wear this all day long.

Current Favorites

A lot of change has occurred this summer. I’ve been in Vancouver, I started a new job at Anthropologie, and my style has really developed (as it usually does when you start a new retail job right before back-to-school shopping). With change, usually comes new favorite things! I’ve been experimenting with lots of different products, styles, and inspirations – here are a couple of things I’ve been loving in particular:

IMG_4007

  1. Aritzia Bertillon Blouse – I even surprised myself when I picked up a purple top off the rack, but I’ve been getting a ton of wear out of this incredible transitional piece! The dusty purple color can bring a bit of depth to a look while its unexpected neutrality allows it to be worn with almost any other color.
  2. Free People August Catalog – You have to check out the video that accompanies this month’s catalog – it screams autumn and makes me so incredibly excited to begin preparing for those crisper days.
  3. Anthropologie Catalog – With my new job, I’ve come to appreciate Anthropologie in a totally new way, and this catalog only strengthens that admiration. Beautifully shot and styled, it’s definitely worth checking out for some prime fall inspiration.
  4. Rifle Paper Co. Notebook – I love collecting notebooks so much that I simply can’t write fast enough to fill all the ones I have. I’ve been digging this blue one in particular as my love for wearing color only grows stronger.
  5. Tocca Liliana Perfume – I’m currently loving this fragrance as the perfect scent for this summer-to-fall transition phase that we’re about to go through.
  6. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in “Hollywood” – I’ve found the perfect glam daytime color! Nude with a gold sheen across the top, this liquid lipstick has been worn many times since I got it just last week.
  7. Free People Skinny Scarf – I’ve had this for a while, I know. But I feel as if I’m always finding new ways to wear it and new looks to pair it with.
