To answer the first question I got from a lot of people while wearing this outfit; yes, those are cat ears. The hat was simply too adorable to pass up. Fall here in Montreal can’t seem to make up its mind about what temperature it wants to be, and on these days I like to experiment with some fall looks that show a little more skin. Because let’s be honest: before fall starts we start picturing ourselves wearing adorable dresses with coats and booties, and when the air turns chilly that’s not always the reality.

It’s no secret that black is the best color (shade, whatever), especially if you’re trying to create a cute outfit in an instant. It’s also no secret that a leather jacket functions well in this context as well. So as a Uni student who needs something to be thrown together in ten minutes for class, there could not be a better prototype of an outfit. Black leather on black is always a classically chic combination, and its easy. You don’t even have to be a student to pull it off! Anybody can wear it, it works for almost any occasion, and its, quite simply, just plain cool. xx

P.S. Happy October everyone! The leaves are turning and pumpkins are already out, how can you not be excited?

Versatility and Practicality: the Two Best Words

Leather Skirt, Forever 21 / Tee, Brandy Melville (similar) / Trench, H&M (similar) / Backpack, Herschel

The main thing you should take away from this post is that leather mini skirts give me life. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know this. I snagged this amazing skirt at Forever 21 and I have to say it is treating me well. The A-line shape is perfect for so many outfits and the faux leather has just enough give to be comfortable yet keep its shape. I would now consider this skirt a staple for all seasons, (except maybe winter for obvious reasons) and would definitely recommend one for all! The other subject I wanted to touch on was my Herschel backpack. I’m loving the trend of fashion-forward backpacks for their practicality and the cool, casual essence they bring to any outfit. Now, we all can’t afford Cara Delevingne’s stellar line for Mulberry, so I just wanted to show that this trend can definitely work with more casual and more affordable bags. My personal fave is Herschel, because they’re amazing quality bags with great color variation, organizational features, and have a great variety of cool styles to choose from!

Jeans, H&M (ripped myself) / Sports Bra, LF / Blazer, Topshop / Tank, Brandy Melville / Bag, LF

My last SF post! (Until Christmas, that is). Despite the fact I’ve been in Montreal for 2 weeks, this post was shot back in the last few days I had left in San Francisco. So this is the second post in a row with a blazer, and I’m not even going to apologize for it. I love love love this outfit because it is a classic counterexample to the idea that blazers are consistently preppy. The trick to avoid this common misconception is to throw a blazer over outfits that have no structure elsewhere. xx
