the blonded.

Blonded.

In September of 2013, I started a blog. Looking for a creative outlet for my innate earnestness to enter the fashion world, TheClosetCraze served as the perfect platform. And for over 3 years (can you believe it?) it has fulfilled its duties and been what I needed it to be, when I needed it. I’ve experienced times of intense motivation to create content, and just as much I’ve left it alone to focus on other life experiences.

TheClosetCraze was an idea birthed from my 16-turned-17-year-old mind. Wrapped up in a world flooded with like-minded teenage girls just trying to “make their mark” on the fashion world and worshipping Danielle Bernstein, I naturally fell into step with the rest. As any unseasoned young girl, a little too scared to wear what she really wanted to wear and act how she really wanted to act, it was easy to think what I was doing was right when everybody else was doing it too.

By no means am I discrediting what TheClosetCraze has done for me – it has helped me to blossom and flourish in so many ways. On my journey since its inception, it has not only enabled me to trace where my style has gone as its surface purpose prescribes, but it has provided the much needed encouragement to ride the wave of my imagination rather than chase it.

But it’s clear to me, and hopefully to you as well, that I am not the same self that I was when I was 16. And it seems to me that running a blog that no longer reflects where I am in life – creatively, intellectually, and otherwise – doesn’t make much sense.

So I present to you, the blonded.

the blonded is just a blog. No more, no less. It’s the portal through which I will toss my thoughts and feelings into the black hole of the internet. Fashion still plays the primary inspiration in the blonded universe, but by removing the confines of definition, I feel that whatever my content will be, will be unreservedly me.

Welcome to the blonded.

Musée Looks

I usually don’t go for indoor shoots, but I needed to show you guys this jacket ASAP and it’s not exactly weatherproof. Regardless, I think the pictures turned out great! Me and my favorite photographer Haley (check out her site here!) ventured to one of my favorite places in Montreal – the Musee des Beaux Arts.

Alone time is very important to me – Every once in a while I just need to refocus my thoughts and this quiet museum provides the perfect environment. That said, this time I was not alone at the museum, and it was equally as fun!

With regards to the outfit – I got this jacket at Zara two weeks ago and never looked back. It’s actually turned out to be a great layering piece for colder days – so I’ve been able to wear my favorite blouses out of the house without covering them up with a sweater!

The skinny scarf is another key piece to note – I’ve worn it before and every time I wear it, it feels like it adds something different the each look.

A Case for Canadians

These shoes simply didn’t get enough love on the blog when it was warm enough to wear flats. So I’m going to wear them in the fall at the cost of warm feet. With that said, it wasn’t really very cold when we shot these pictures.

Now that you’ve seen a close up of my babies, I can now tell you that this post is not about these shoes. It’s about Canadian Tuxedos, and how I’m making a case for them.

I’ll wear a denim jacket over jeans and I’ll consistently get snide remarks and judgmental looks from “fashionable” girls on campus. Have some creativity, yeh? Personally, I don’t see the harm in wearing man’s greatest invention on the top and the bottom. I mean, sets are in, right? Why aren’t those people getting flack?!

To me, there’s just something so ~cool, americana, effortless, laid-back, name your adjective~ about an all denim look.

Of course, if you’re an entry level Canadian Tuxedo-wearer unlike myself, take some tips from this outfit to ease into the look:

(1) Different colored denim – you’ve heard it before, and I’ll say it again. *Warning* black denim with blue denim does not count as a Canadian tux in my books, but it does still look amazing, so you do you.

(2) Majorly accessorize. Whether it be a scarf, fussy bag, or statement shoes (I’ve got all 3 on here), it will definitely present the denim-on-denim look as a canvas on which you’ve created a piece of accessory art, taking away from the denim-on-denim-ness.

(3) If you’re not up for the denim jacket yet, try a denim shirt with a leather jacket on top! I definitely believe that a denim shirt counts towards this trend, and a leather jacket is a great way to make this statement look a little more subdued. But you’re wearing a leather jacket, so you’ll definitely still look ace.

Okay – so as noted, I’m posting a lot more pictures than usual. But after seeing them can you blame me?! Last week I teamed up with blogger friend-fellow Montreal resident-photographer Haley, and it was seriously a match made in heaven. We’re so happy with how the pictures turned out and are so excited to continue working together!

Now, with regards to the outfit – by now you’re probably used to me wearing a ton of Free People, and now that I’ve been exposed to it that probably won’t stop. This “car coat” is the new keystone to my wardrobe. I actually can throw it over everything, and it immediately adds an element of cool effortlessness that I love. The title says “One Coat, Two Ways” – so you can definitely expect another post coming at you featuring this staple!
