6 States, 6 Days: Part I

So, my family (minus my brother & my sister, so really just my parents, Tucker, and myself) just finished a 6-day road trip through 6 states. What kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t post about it?

Here’s Part IThe {First} Photodiary.

I say the first photodiary, because this was a long road trip and with that comes a lot of picture-taking. Here is the first stretch of the trip – from Napa, CA to Sun Valley, ID, we drove over 13 hours in one day to reach our first destination.

The drive was gorgeous in parts and ugly in others – but needless to say, we were thankful to arrive in Sun Valley that evening to a stunning Airbnb. (I didn’t get any pictures, but check out The Lodge in Hailey, ID!) The nature was beautiful, and we were spoiled with breathtaking weather during our stay.

Huck & Paddle / Ketchum, Idaho

The town of Ketchum was as quaint as the mountains were awe-inspiring. While we truly got the sense that Ketchum was a real town for real residents, we never ran out of things to do or new people to meet! We found this cute little shop, Huck & Paddle, and ate at some seriously yummy restaurants.

A Case for Canadians

These shoes simply didn’t get enough love on the blog when it was warm enough to wear flats. So I’m going to wear them in the fall at the cost of warm feet. With that said, it wasn’t really very cold when we shot these pictures.

Now that you’ve seen a close up of my babies, I can now tell you that this post is not about these shoes. It’s about Canadian Tuxedos, and how I’m making a case for them.

I’ll wear a denim jacket over jeans and I’ll consistently get snide remarks and judgmental looks from “fashionable” girls on campus. Have some creativity, yeh? Personally, I don’t see the harm in wearing man’s greatest invention on the top and the bottom. I mean, sets are in, right? Why aren’t those people getting flack?!

To me, there’s just something so ~cool, americana, effortless, laid-back, name your adjective~ about an all denim look.

Of course, if you’re an entry level Canadian Tuxedo-wearer unlike myself, take some tips from this outfit to ease into the look:

(1) Different colored denim – you’ve heard it before, and I’ll say it again. *Warning* black denim with blue denim does not count as a Canadian tux in my books, but it does still look amazing, so you do you.

(2) Majorly accessorize. Whether it be a scarf, fussy bag, or statement shoes (I’ve got all 3 on here), it will definitely present the denim-on-denim look as a canvas on which you’ve created a piece of accessory art, taking away from the denim-on-denim-ness.

(3) If you’re not up for the denim jacket yet, try a denim shirt with a leather jacket on top! I definitely believe that a denim shirt counts towards this trend, and a leather jacket is a great way to make this statement look a little more subdued. But you’re wearing a leather jacket, so you’ll definitely still look ace.

Free People Boots, Skirt, Scarf / Vintage Denim Jacket

This scarf has to be one of my favorite new pieces for the Autumn/Winter season. It’s absolutely massive (à la Lenny Kravitz) and so cozy I could wrap myself in it for the whole season. Before it gets tooooo cold I decided to pair it with a midi skirt (which is actually part of an amazing set) and my go-to fall booties. Seriously – these things have been glued to my feet ever since the beginning of October and I don’t really see this stopping anytime soon.

In other news, this is the second round of pictures from my new Montreal Photographer Haley and the excitement surrounding our partnership only grows. Check out her blog and her Instagram!

Coat, Free People / Jeans, Free People / Sweater, H&M / Backpack, Urban Outfitters / Boots, Jeffrey Campbell

Okay – so as noted, I’m posting a lot more pictures than usual. But after seeing them can you blame me?! Last week I teamed up with blogger friend-fellow Montreal resident-photographer Haley, and it was seriously a match made in heaven. We’re so happy with how the pictures turned out and are so excited to continue working together!

Now, with regards to the outfit – by now you’re probably used to me wearing a ton of Free People, and now that I’ve been exposed to it that probably won’t stop. This “car coat” is the new keystone to my wardrobe. I actually can throw it over everything, and it immediately adds an element of cool effortlessness that I love. The title says “One Coat, Two Ways” – so you can definitely expect another post coming at you featuring this staple!
